That Time I Got Tased...
Last year, I finally did something I had been wanting to do for 7 years...
I got TASED. On purpose. For funsies.
I know that sounds crazy, and it really just is. Here's the story -- I have a little background in law enforcement. I dispatched for 911 for a couple of years, and I worked in the Sheriff's Office for another 4. I still have some involvement in law enforcement, as I currently work for a prosecuting attorney. Needless to say, I have a soft spot in my heart for police, fire, ems, and dispatch.
Ever since I started in Dispatch in 2009, I've been wanting to be tased. I have gotten up the courage to let the k-9s attack me 3 or 4 times, (Quite an experience in itself, by the way,) but I had never gotten up the courage to be tased. Once I was all SET to do it, and some badass girl went right before me and she was so brave and strong she never even made a peep and so I got intimidated and chickened out.
Last year I finally got the nerve up to do it -- even though some of the officers tried to talk me out of it, I finally just decided I was never going to get another chance (unless of course I take a wrong turn in my life choices...) and I did it.
I know this probably isn't the most motivating example to normal people, but I am always telling my girls... don't let FEAR be the reason you don't want to do something. Fear only holds us back... Courage pushes us forward.
If there's something you're dying to do, even if it's something weird... don't let FEAR HOLD YOU BACK! And don't let other people tell you you're crazy for wanting to do it (trust me, there were plenty of those). You'll never know what will happen until you try. "All it takes is 20 seconds of insane courage." .. In my case it was only 5 seconds. ;)
